Florence tourist tax 2026: how much it costs in apartments and who is exempt

    Quick answer

In Florence the 2026 tourist tax for apartments and holiday rentals is €6 per person per night, for a maximum of 7 consecutive nights. Children under 12 are exempt. It is not included in booking-platform prices and is paid directly to your host.

When you book an apartment in Florence, there is one more item to budget for besides the rental price: the city tourist tax. Here’s how much it is, who pays it and how it works in our apartments.

How much is the Florence tourist tax in 2026?

For holiday rentals and apartments the 2026 rate is €6 per person per night. In hotels it depends on the star rating. Rates are set by the City of Florence and may change: the official city website always prevails.

How many nights do you pay?

You pay for a maximum of 7 consecutive nights. Stay 10 nights and you only pay for the first 7.

Who is exempt from the Florence tourist tax?

    • Children and young people under 12.
    • People with severe disabilities and one companion.
    • Other categories in the city regulations (for example some medical-treatment cases): ask your host if you think you qualify.

    Example

    A family of 2 adults and 2 children aged 8 and 14 staying 4 nights pays for 3 people (the 8-year-old is exempt): 3 × €6 × 4 nights = €72.

How do you pay the tourist tax?

The tax is not included in the price shown on Airbnb and other platforms: you pay it to the host, who passes it on to the city. In our apartments we tell you the exact amount before you arrive, so there are no surprises.

Other costs to plan for in Florence

Transport (a tram ticket is €2, see our airport-to-centre tram guide), parking if you drive (read ZTL and parking) and museum tickets. With an apartment with a kitchen, like L&D 51 Suites, you also save on meals.

    FAQ

Do you pay the Florence tourist tax in an apartment?

Yes. The Florence tourist tax also applies to apartments and holiday rentals: in 2026 it is €6 per person per night.

Do children pay the Florence tourist tax?

No. Children and young people under 12 are exempt from the Florence tourist tax.

Is the tourist tax included in the Airbnb price?

Usually not: in Florence the tourist tax is paid separately to the host.

  • Florence ZTL for tourists: 2026 hours and where to park near Ognissanti

Florence ZTL for tourists: 2026 hours and where to park near Ognissanti

    Quick answer

Florence’s historic centre is a ZTL (limited traffic zone): on weekdays it is active 7:30am-8pm and on Saturdays 7:30am-4pm; from April to October there is also a night ZTL on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11pm to 3am. Every unauthorised pass under a camera means a fine. If you arrive by car, the simplest option is a paid garage: near Piazza Ognissanti there is Garage Europa at Borgo Ognissanti 29.

Every year many visitors go home from Florence with a nasty surprise: ZTL fines that arrive months later through the rental company. Here’s what you need to know to avoid them.

    What is the Florence ZTL?

It’s the area of the historic centre that only authorised vehicles can enter (residents, service vehicles, some permit holders). Entry points are monitored by number-plate cameras with no barrier, so it’s easy to drive in without noticing.

Street in Florence historic centre inside the ZTL
Most streets in Florence’s historic centre are inside the ZTL

What are the Florence ZTL hours in 2026?

    • Monday-Friday: 7:30am-8pm (sectors A, B, O).
    • Saturday: 7:30am-4pm.
    • Sundays and holidays: normally not active, unless special orders apply.
    • Summer night ZTL (April-October): Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11pm-3am in all sectors.

Hours can change for events, so always check the electronic signs at each entry point, which show “attiva” (active) or “non attiva” (not active).

How much is a ZTL fine?

Fines are several tens of euros for each pass under a camera; driving in and straight out does not cancel it. With a rental car, the rental company usually adds an admin fee.

Where to park near Piazza Ognissanti?

The most convenient option for our guests is Garage Europa, Borgo Ognissanti 29, one minute’s walk from the apartments. Other options are the car parks around the station and the Fortezza da Basso car park, just outside the ZTL. Tip: book or call ahead in high season.

Do you need a car in Florence?

Not to visit the city: the centre is best explored on foot. Flying in? Take the tram from the airport. Arriving by train? You’re minutes from our apartments (see where to stay near the station). You only need a car for Tuscany day trips — rent one just for that day.

    FAQ

Can you drive into the Florence ZTL on Sunday?

The Florence ZTL is normally not active on Sundays and holidays, unless special orders or the summer night ZTL apply.

Can a rental car enter the Florence ZTL?

No. Without specific authorisation a rental car cannot enter the ZTL while it is active.

Where can you park near Florence station?

Near the station and Piazza Ognissanti you can use paid garages such as Garage Europa at Borgo Ognissanti 29.

Next door is the refectory with Ghirlandaio’s Last Supper.
